How It Works
The Art of Giving Back
Hi, my name's Shawn, I'm the founder of this nonprofit. The concept of The Art of Giving Back was born several years ago when I was invited to do a pop up art market at the last minute. This was back when there was the standoff between the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. I had the idea of donating all my proceeds to the Sioux tribe and I pitched the idea to the event hosts. They were into it and it turns out so was everyone who attended. I sold out within a couple hours and was able to donate over a thousand dollars. I saw then some real potential in the concept and always wanted to do something more with the idea. For me personally I enjoy making pottery and I enjoy making a positive difference wherever I can. This concept is the bridge between those two things.
The long-term vision is to build a platform where other artists can donate their work, and art lovers can acquire unique pieces while directly supporting important charities. That’s the future we’re working toward.
Right now, we’re starting small: I’m donating my own pottery through this nonprofit, with 100% of proceeds going to the Wildlife Center of Salt Lake, a local wildlife rehabilitation center.
How It Works Today
-
Pottery With Purpose
Every piece in the shop is handmade by me (Shawn Wood Ceramics) and donated to The Art of Giving Back. -
100% to Charity
The full purchase price (excluding shipping costs and credit card processing fees) is donated to the Wildlife Center of Salt Lake, helping provide rescue and rehabilitation for injured and orphaned wildlife. -
Your Role
When you purchase pottery here, you’re directly supporting wildlife care.
The Future Vision
This is only the beginning. In time, The Art of Giving Back will:
- Invite other artists to donate their work.
- Curate themed collections tied to important causes.
- Give buyers the chance to choose which nonprofit their purchase supports.
Transparency and Impact
The Art of Giving Back is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We have a Utah State sales tax exemption certificate which means the purchases you make through this site are not subject to sales tax. There is nobody on the payroll at The Art of Giving and the website is managed and paid for by me personally. This means that with the exception of shipping costs paid at checkout and the small credit card processing fees taken by the card processor we are able to ensure that all of the money raised through your purchase goes to the cause it's supposed to go to. As we grow, we’re committed to transparency and accountability.
