FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What percentage of the purchase gets donated?
All of it! Except for the 2.9% credit card fees that we must pay to process the payments and the cost of shipping which is billed to the customer exactly how it is billed to us by UPS or USPS. This system is designed to be a pass through of purchase price to beneficiary nonprofit, not one of those things where a "portion" of proceeds goes to something good while the majority goes to someone who is just trying to make a buck.
I'm an artist who's interested in donating, how can I participate?
Email Shawn at shawnwoodceramics@gmail.com. You can donate one work or several, whatever you're willing to do.
As an artist, if I'm donating my work, what do I get out of it, how do I benefit?
Mainly you benefit by the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you do something good. But there's also the benefit of the PR value you get when you show people why they can feel good about supporting you as an artist through your own website or regular sales channel. The more The Art of Giving Back grows the more ability we'll have to promote featured artists and give you exposure to new potential customers.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Unfortunately No. For artists the IRS does not consider this type of donation tax deductible. For customers who are purchasing art your purchase is technically a purchase, not a donation, so it's not tax deductible either. However, all of the transactions are tax free, The Art of Giving Back does not have to collect sales tax nor pay income tax which means the maximum amount of the money from your purchase goes directly to making a positive difference in the world.
How long are the store openings?
Each sale window lasts for 5 days. After that, the store closes while we handle packaging, shipping, and transferring the proceeds to the featured nonprofit.
When will my order ship?
All orders ship shortly after the sale window closes. Because each sale involves many one-of-a-kind items, we wait until everything is finalized before packing and shipping. You’ll receive a tracking email once your order is on its way.
Can I return or exchange an item?
All sales are final. Since the art is donated and the proceeds are passed through to a nonprofit, we’re unable to process returns or exchanges.
